 Training Course

The training Facilities at CPAG Duke Street Glasgow

There is always a time that any group requires training. After much researching the conclusion was that the group at the forefront of welfare rights training is CPAG.

As a volunteer returning to education was always going to be daunting for me in particular a week long course. After the first 30 minutes I was at complete ease and knew that I could cope. The class of May 2011 are a wonderful mix of experience`s and as we all know it is the life experience that people bring to any education process that makes it exciting. Tutor Jane Smith (centre) gave us a solid 2 days of information brought to life by her own experiences as a welfare rights officer. Using humour and painting a picture of situations we could all identify with and aid us absorbing the information. Nancy (left) has 20 years experience in welfare rights and values the training as she takes a refresher course. As funding becomes available we will access more training from CPAG , I fully endorse the training ,tutors and  facilities they have to offer and would recommend any welfare rights group to look at their training schedule for 2011.

We are pleased to announce that we secured the important funding to operate another year and carry out the work that we do.

Our funders for year 2011/2012:

-      Falkirk Council Community Grant Scheme – the running cost of our office and website

-      Co-operative Membership Community Fund – the rent and mobile telephone

-      Growing Communities Fund – to organize and deliver 4 roadshows in Falkirk area and  produce 4 newsletter.

DEVELOPMENT DAYS  OCTOBER 2010

Everyone can benefit from development days. Charlie Hastie from Falkirk Council aids us in the shape of F.M.S. for 2011. Our own core members lead the way with dynamic Diane, stunning Stanislava and ever popular Kaja taking up the reins. I am of course taking the pics better not to scare potential volunteers. Charlie on an earlier visit had implemented the dreaded "SWOT" analysis and had left us some time to think over our strengths and weaknesses. The day I am sure we can all agree was a success and we can all look forward to further dates and Charlie`s unique style of training. The talent that is within FMS volunteers will see us leading the field in welfare and inclusion of migrant in the Forth Valley Area.

New Volunteers

It is always refreshing to get new volunteers in this case young volunteers. The average migrant worker is 25 - 35 years old and our young volunteers are able to identify better in that age group. Emilia is from Poland and is seeking employment so she can gather money to go back to university and study for her B.A. Georgi is from Bulgaria currently studying Computer aided Design at Falkirk College and working part time in Bakkovar in Boness to help him sustain himself in the UK. After induction our volunteers gain office skills but also bring their own personal talents to the organization. We hope to develop our own teaching program in the future that will gave a comprehensive cover to migrant inclusion.
